| The Duda Response to all Aspects of the State of the Union Address.
Tonight's speech reminded me of a reversed story plot, with the 20,000 troops being the reversed climax. Bush actually started out in a very bi-partisan manner, probably due to the recent take-over (pownage?) of the Congress by the Democrats. Even though the Congress seemed to support him in his endeavors to
benefit general American life, they were not enthusiastic for him. I was impressed though, this year instead of just calling out specific
issues, he actually proposed some noteworthy ideas. For example: he has
a plan to eliminate the federal deficit in 5 years; he wishes to put at
date on legal reduction on all oil usage. (Something I have supported for
a long time) The first half of the speech was (in my opinion) a precursor to the "surge" of troops (As it was deemed tonight) so that the surge would seem less idiotic. (I love not having to be politically correct.) Our president tried to make it seem like our foreign policy was helping other nations as well. President ended by calling out true American Hero's (Such as the Subway Hero) While I acknowledge they are truly glorious people, they should not have been mentioned in this speech. As the state of the Union is supposed to be the plan, not the pride of America. The Democratic Response To start with...WOW. (Not the game) Last year the Democratic response was badly written, and badly read off a slow teleprompter. Recently elected Virginian Senator Jim Webb refused to use the prewritten speech of the Democrats, and used his own for the response. For obvious reasons it flowed much better, with very few pauses. In eight minutes he had more to say then in George Bush's 49 minute speech. We could all tell Bush skirted around the fact that he got us deep into this mess with Iraq; Jim Webb reminded our president that he brought us into this, and that it was our presidents responsibility to get us out to focus on more important things, like the war on terrorism. Jim Webb has family in this Iraq, and he (as well as the rest of his family) have served our nation in the military. He did mention hero's, but they were presidents of the past who got us through previous wars.
Fun Trivia The Senators/Representatives were not sleeping Pelosi blinked more than George Bush and Dick Cheney combined Hilary Clinton was sitting very close to Barack Obama Dick Cheney and George Bush always drink their water in unison (Any others?)
